REPORT FROM CHILDREN'S PASTOR MOUENG VIMEAN - PHNOM PENH CHURCH

Report for Children’s Ministry, October 2008

Joy Club:

Children:

We have around 30 kids from a slum that come to Joy Club every week by walk, they take around 40 minutes to walk, and they have a very good unity. They behave well in the program. Some of them believed in Jesus already. They know how to pray. They always remember the storytelling when we review. There are around 80 kids from a slum that enjoy with our sing song very much, they not only sing in the Joy Club but also sing altogether in the van when we pick them back to the slum. There some kids that are faithful to us, when they picked something they give us back but we also have some bad kids that steal from us.

We just had a few older boys that we train to play the drama, their character are changing and not rude like before.

We just had a donor that sponsor a boy from Joy Club to go to New Life School. This will be very helpful to change his life completely. We are raising more sponsor for other kids.

Volunteers:

Some of our volunteers are very faithful, they commit very much. Every week they work very hard but never complain. Some come to help us almost a whole day for set up and Joy Club. These people love the children very much.

There are more people that are able to do the first aid with our kids; we have a few people that are very gifted with playing puppets. More people can play guitars for the worship.

Slum areas outreach:

We have four cell groups in two different slum areas with parents and children. We have very good relationship with the people at the slum areas, they love us very much. They treat us like their family. We have some gangs that use drug but these people respect us and greet us when we go to the slum. Every week we have around 60 kids from different slum areas come to children’s church through our relationship with them and their parents.

Children’s Church:

Children:

Some children really love God very much; they pray and study the word of God at home and at church. Most of children remember the word of God very well. The children give offering faithfully. The children in the nursery class are quick to remember, some of them helped our worship to sing in front of kids.

We just created one new 9.10 class for them, and they are very interested in it. This term we have over 40 kids already registered in two classes. We just had a boy that is able to play guitar.

We have over 10 kids from one slum come to children’s church every week faithfully; every Sunday they gather at slum waiting for us to pick them. We don’t have to go to gather them. They wake up very early.

We just had over new 10 kids from an orphanage come to our children’s church. They are a good Christian.

Volunteers:

Our volunteers love the children. Some of them are very faithful. They are very serious with their responsibilities. Some of the people dedicate very much but some not. The helpers in nursery class come to teach the kids specifically. They are very patient with the kids.

We just had one of our volunteers will help to teach the children in 9.10 class after the children’s church. She is very good person and creative.

We have a team that sacrifices very much; they spend their money to buy a lot of materials in the children’s church. They bought a lot of good things for kids. They don’t just only serve but also give.

Prayer Request:

    1. Raise sponsor for 30 poor kids to go to Christian School and to buy food and school supplies for them monthly, $50 a month for each
    2. Preparing activities plan and financial plan in 2009. Clear vision and plan in 2009
    3. Pray that the children from Bontay slek slum will be moved to area in suborn, so that we can still have relationship with them. If they move far we can’t reach them.
    4. Strength, anointing, wisdom for Vimean, staff and volunteers in Children’s Ministry

Note:  This month we missed 20 children from Care for Cambodia organization, if they come there will be more children in Children’s Church, these kids come off and on.

Helpers:

We just got two more volunteers; one of them is the older children that used to attend Children’s Church before and there are 3 to 4 older children will help as a volunteer soon, so now we have plenty of volunteers in Children’s Church.

Our volunteers are very faithful and committed, they love the children, and their lives are also growing. The older children are able to teach and lead activities in Children’s Church program. These people help us very much with our responsibilities. They are able to be in charge of program.

Offering:

Janelle McKeller just put $400 in Joy Club. Mission Direct gave us things like clothes, toys, crafts for children.  Every Thursday and Sunday morning we have an A B C bread shop give the Joy Club and Children’s Church the left over bread, it’s a good bread, we use this instead of our snack for children, we also take some bread to give to kids at slum. So this helps us to cut some of our expense on snack. They also give us another day when they have it. We are also contacting some hotels and restaurants to give us their food for our children.

Other information:

This month we helped Janelle McKeller to film for documentary. She film a street kid in Joy Club and some of activities program, I also was interviewed in this film. There are 3 net works in French are interested to broadcast this documentary. She will pass this information to give to churches in US and in Europe. This film will encourage more volunteers and sponsor for kids in Joy Club. We also just had two guys from Australia come to film our children and some of our activities in Children’s Church for the documentary. I also was interviewed a bit. It will broadcast in TV in Australia.

Few days ago there is a guy, a producer from Singapore asked me to help him to recommend two children in Cambodia for their TV cable show, and it’s called “DESNEY ‘WEEKEND’ CASTING BRIEF. I picked two of our children in Children’s Ministry for him to film.

Every week we also receive offering from children in Children’s Church. The children still put their offering even they have a little.

Children’s Ministry Staff:

Two week ago I went to join training at Hosea organization about drug. It’s a very good lesson. This organization has a project to help the children that addicted drug to stay there. We also can partner with them. I just made brochure for children’s ministry. I will have it done soon.

Chamroeun and Kay Ya are growing with areas like running program and building relationship with our volunteers and people at slums. Chamroeun is preparing children’s worship band, it’s going very well. We will start this band soon. They both are very good and diligent.

Report for Children’s Ministry

November 2007

Reported by Children’s Pastor Moueng Vimean

Joy Club:

Weekly Program:

On November 01, 2007, we had 68 kids; we missed kids because many kids are going to school.  On November 08, 2007 we had 75 kids. In the worship time the children fill with Holy Spirit. Everyone was singing and praising the Lord. On November 15, 2007, we had 106 kids, children really enjoyed with the worship and we saw every kids singing, even the small one, they tired to follow us even they don’t know the song clearly. On November 22, 2007, we had 116 kids. That week we had Darcy and his wife, Aileen visit and help us. On November 29, 2007, we had 151 kids; we had a lot of small kids, the program was good and fun, and the worship was so good, Chamroeun led it and he did a great job.

Children:

There are around 20 kids from a slum come to Children’s Church faithfully; we went to pick them by van. They get used to the church at the moment. Some of them involve in the church activities like answering questions from the telling story. Some are repent.

Children really enjoy in our program so much especially the worship; they sing altogether even the new songs that we just sang. They don’t know the song clearly but they tried to follows us. The children remember the telling story very well even it the old story that we used to teach them long time ago.

We just cut our program to be shorter; we take one hour and fifteen minutes for the whole program. We found that it’s very helpful to control the kids and the kids enjoy it.

Before some kids complained that our program is so long and they need some times to work on the road. So now after Joy Club some kids can go to work.

We had a lot of small kids in Joy Club at the moment and for the older one go to school.

At the moment many children started going to school, and some children are forced to study part time after their school, this is the way that their teachers get money from them and so they can’t join our program.

Before if they have school in the morning they can come to our program in afternoon, but now some of them have to study part time class, if not their teachers will not give them score or they might be fail. Some kids don’t come to Joy Club because they forget and some busy with gambling. There is a lot of gambling in the slum behind the hospital. Some are forced to be at home to look after their brothers and sisters because their parents go to work, some busy to work on the street.

There are around 20 kids from Samaki that missed Joy Club this month; they all have school in afternoon.

Volunteers:

We have a few people that are very faithful, they are a great help in Joy Club, and so the Joy Club can go very well with them and our staffs. Some of our volunteers still take time to help us and never complain about it. The helpers that are with us at the moment are the very committed man in children’s program. We train these people to do some of our responsibilities. They are growing from week to week.

We see their life and faith are growing, they learnt about faithfulness in the small work.

We also miss some our volunteers, they are busy with the school, they have the same problem with the children, if they don’t go to part time school, and their score will be low or might be failed. Some want to help but they are forced to go to school. We still have enough helpers and it’s not a big deal. Our program doesn’t need many helpers because we do it shorter and some helpers help us to set up everything in the morning already.

In the planning and prayer meeting we don’t have many people to join because of their school, they just only are able to come on Thursday, so most responsibilities we give to our staffs and our faithful helpers but the program work better than before. We still have prayer meeting on Wednesday and the prayer is stronger and stronger.

Slum areas outreach:

Bontay Slek:

Every Tuesday and Friday afternoon we go to the slum near the hospital. We had good relationship them. There is a lot of gambling in that area and many gangs there, this will have bad influence to our children. Some children are tempted with the gambling. We are praying very hard about this. We still don’t know when this area will move. But we praise God that most of the children in that area start going to school. We encouraged them time to time to go to school.

On Monday and Friday morning we go to other slum at Borey Keyla, the people there love us so much since we had the clinic. They treat us as their own families. The people there are having the land conflict with the businessman and government. There are over 20 kids from that areas come to Children’s Church every second service. They enjoy our program even they don’t give them food but just only a small snack.

Other days we go to others areas for a short visitation and reminding children about the Joy Club and Children’s Church. Before we had Thareth and Phally, our volunteers, go with us to those areas. But they are just busy with school and work and they can’t go with us any more. So we just have only two different bible classes for two areas and other areas we just visit.

I think it’s a great idea that we want to change the lives of children completely from the life on the streets. I and my staffs agree with this idea and we are seeking God to find way to do this.

Testimony:

One day we heard that we have a little money for Joy Club for December that can run Joy Club about a week, we prayed about this very hard, after prayer, God spoke to me after prayer that we will more than enough until we could share to others and still much more. A day later we heard that someone gave us money for Christmas, it’s a lot of money, later on much more money come in. God did answer our prayer. Praise God! Through this God show me that His love for children is much more wonderful that I used think.

Children’s Church:

Weekly Program:

On November 04, 2007 we had 124 kids in first service and 25 kids in second service.

On November 11, 2007, we had 130 in first service and 25 kids in second service. The worship was so good on that day. The program was so fun. We didn’t break in small groups because everyone was enjoying with the program especially the telling story. We also had a puppet show with the music, it was so fun.

That week there was a kid was pain in her stomach, she couldn’t join the program then she came to us; she was healed completely right away after we prayed for her.

On November 18, 2007, we had 115 kids in first service and 33 kids in second service. The children pay high attention to our volunteers. The program was good.

On November 25, we had 32 kids in first service and 4 kids in second service. It was water festival, that’s why we missed a lot of kids.

Children:

The amount of children in children’s church is growing so much in the first service this month. We always have more new children in the first service and the children from an orphanage that used to miss for long time just came back. Before their orphanage director was always busy. So she couldn’t pick those kids to church.

Children are changing from week to week. They remember the telling story very well; they pay high attention to it. Every two or three months we reviewed all what they had learnt and they remember most of the stories. They also apply them in their lives.

The worship have been great, the children really worship God with their heart, one day we sang a song about thanksgiving, the prayed very hard according to this song, they were giving thanks to God. In the worship time we have a few children that are willing to stand and help to sing with us. They enjoy it and do it every week.

The children learn how to serve others, they always help us when we ask them to help, and they enjoy it so much. We don’t have to do some responsibilities but we just ask the children to do it.

Some new children come very faithfully; they enjoy with our program especially the worship. They try to follow us even they don’t know the song clearly.

We have little children in second service because our program is so long, we wait until the adult church finish and children get hungry, most of them from Borey Keyla, we always go to pick, some already repent. We would like to buy lunch for children next year. So that we will keep having children is second service.

Volunteers:

Some of our volunteers are so faithful for both the planning meeting and teaching and other meetings that we have for Children’s Workers. We are training everyone to do the program, they are better now, and others see that their friends can do it; they start to be courage to do also. Before they were shy and felt that they couldn’t do it.

Our volunteer have big commitment to children’s program even they don’t feel uncomfortable because it hot on the roof. Some teams have a lot of creativeness.

We just missed three faithful helpers because they just moved to the new house near Phnom Penh Thmey, so they can’t help anymore. They has been so a big blessing to children’s ministry, they also have a lot of creativeness.

We are working closely to the each team to help them out. We help them with some preparations because some people in team are so busy. So everything is in our control.

Nursery Class:

I just asked Chamroeun to make a curriculum and schedule for the nursery class, he’s been doing it. We have a lot of little kids in the class with two to three people. These people are very patient with these kids. They take turn to teach the kids.

Staff of Children’s Ministry:

Chamroeun and Kaya are keep growing very much, these whole month they both set program and oversee the Joy Club and sometime the Children’s Church. I am training them more and more to run the program by them selves.

On day in our staff devotion, God spoke to me to prophesy a word to Chamroeun, He said: “I know your deeds, your love and your faith. I will not put any other burden on you. Only hold on what you have until I come and I will give you authority to the nations”. I think God will use him to change nations. Please pray for him. These last few days he felt very light, no burden and very fresh in his spirit. He was struggling with problems and sorrows before.

We are preparing Christmas parties for Joy Club and Children’s Church. The Joy Club we will do on December 20 at 2:00-4:30pm in the church room and Children’s Church is on December 30. Chamroeun and Kaya are taking most of responsibilities for these parties and I just help to show them. They are doing them very well. They can set a big program by themselves.

I just had a week day off including the national holiday. It was good and I could relax and spend more time with God.

Regarding Thareth and Phally, our full and part time volunteer just left Children’s Ministry. Phally just got a new job at Transform Cambodia and Thareth is so busy with her final year of the university. Thareth has been growing so much during her time with us; she could tell the story to children with creative ways and leading other activities very well. She still helps us in Joy Club and Children’s Church.

Every Wednesday at 8:00-9:30am we have staff devotion. We spend time with God, fellowship; relax in the presence of God. Every morning before we start working, we always gather to pray. We create this habit in our office and everyday I take one or two hours a day just to seek God in the work time.

Darcy and Aileen, the Pilipino told me that they would like to help us with a lot of areas in Children’s Ministry like preparing good and fun programs, create others activities. They will work with us to improve Children’s Program both in Children’s Church and Joy Club. I think it will be great if they will help us, they will give us the answer after their boss told them what to do in January, 2008.

Program:

I have been working on the curriculum for Joy Club and Children’s Church by using from The Bible Truth Book and I also set new schedule for the each team for year 2008 and all responsibilities. Hopefully I will finish these curriculums by January and start using them on early of next year.

This month we didn’t do a lot of activities because we are busy with a lot of training, seminar and preparations.

We develop our program by cutting our program is short but more influence and we found that it’s very helpful to control the kids and it makes children really enjoy in it so much especially the worship; they sing altogether even though the little kids. Report for Children’s Ministry
October 2007
Reported by Children’s Pastor, Moung Vimean
  Joy Club:
 Weekly Program:
  • On October 04, we had over 130 kids in Joy Club, we had a team from World Race helped us.  The worship was so good.
  • On October 11, we didn’t have Joy Club, it was Pchom Ben Day.
  • On October 18, we had 156 kids, we had World Race Team helped us, and we also had the Cambodia Christian Ministry Center came to help to play puppets and they gave prizes to every kids, the kids really enjoyed it so much.
  • On October 25, we had 180 kids. The World Race helps us that week. That week we didn’t have enough helpers and the program was a bit crazy. That week I was not there and I gave all responsibilities to Chamroeun and Kaya to lead Joy Club. They did well.
 Children:
Children are changing, some started being faithful with other’s belongings, and they give us back what they picked from us even we didn’t know who picked it but before they used to steal it if we are careless. Some kids help us to do our responsibilities and they clean up when there is the mess.
There are many children that go to school at the moment, they love to study, there are about 70-80 percent of them that go to school. There are a few kids that didn’t like to go to school before but now they go. Some kids told us that their teacher at school forced them to go to part time class, this is the way that the teachers earn the money, and this makes some of our kids can’t come to Joy Club because they have class the whole day.
There is one slum that now most of the children from that area come to Joy Club, when we go to visit them, they greet us very much, and their parents do too. The parents told us that they are happy that we teach their kids and give them food. Some of their parents told us their kids are better, they respect their parents and do house work.
The children love us and when they meet us they show respect to us, they also invite us to visit their house.
The children remember the story very well even the stories that we taught them for a long time. In the telling story the children sit very quiet and the pay high attention to the story.
When the day of Joy Club arrives, the kids go to tell and remind their friends and they come together to Joy Club. They look after one another especially the children that are from the same area. They help with one another. Some children have a good unity. They do everything together.
 Our Volunteers:
Our volunteers work very hard from week to week. Some helpers love the kids very much, they are happy to help in Joy Club. Some said they get bored if they stay at home but when they help the children they are excited.
We’ve got a few helpers that are so faithful. They always let us know if they miss or are late, and they are not shy to tell us about their lives and their problems. When we know they have problem, we help them by praying for them and giving advice. They are encouraged when we do this. We have a good relationship with them and they respect us.
At the moment we miss many volunteers. The children from Sandra and Graham’s orphanage couldn’t help us anymore because they started having school and others moved to school, and so they can help us once a month but some turn to help in Children’s Church instead of Joy Club. They still want to help in Children’s Program but they have to have time for this school too. We still have enough volunteers that we can run Joy Club especially we have two full and part time volunteers that is so helpful.
We are training our volunteers more and more to run the children’s program. We put them in some main responsibilities.  Some are better right now.
 Slum areas outreach:
 Bontay Slek( Behind Russian hospital)
We could build closer relationship with the children and families there. During Pchom Ben Day we had a medical team from Australia led by Peter Chandra did a small clinic for a few families and they gave many prizes to kids over there. So this helps our relationship get closer and closer. The people there were really happy with our presence.
Chamroeun and one of our full time volunteer go down there and they have two Bible class with kids and families. We had around 20 kids and over 10 parents in the class. The people in the Bible class start putting offering to give to the needy people and they also use it to have a party for the class. They love one another, when someone has problem they try to help with like prayer and money that they put in the offering.
People there love us and sometime they gave us things. This month we also helped a lady that just gave birth to her child rice and money to buy medicine.
There is also a lot of gambling in that area but the people welcome us very warmly.
This month we had The World Race Team go down to visit different area with us and they also gave our kids some small prizes and did fun activities with them. The children really enjoy it.
 Borey Keyla:
The children in our Bible class there learn new songs, and they really enjoy when they sing with us. Some children come to Children’s Church faithfully. We also miss some children that used to come to Children’s Church, before BiBi  went to teach them but now he has school and he couldn’t go there to pick them to Children’s Church. The children like him so much.
Before we had around 40 kids from that area come to Children’s Church in second service but now there are about 20 that still come.
The Bible class with the parents is good, some new people come to our class and we had our full time volunteer, Thareth, help to teach this class. Even though the house is small but the people still come to our class. They love us and sometime they gave us things, they are generous even though they are poor.
Our relationship with the people there is better, we know more families and there are some people also want to come to church on Sunday if they we have someone go to pick them. The people saw that we helped them very much especially with the clinic and they trust in us much more than before. Any time when we go down there, they greet us very much.
 Stoeng Meanchey Dump:
On October 06, I took a guy name David Roger to visit Stoeng Meanchey dump. When he got to the dump, he was touched when he saw the children and their situation and he asked me to be his partner to do Joy Club there, and he promised to assist us financially for the ministry. It was a shock for me to hear that he is very interested to help the children there. That day we also gave many Soyas to kids and he promised with kids there that we will have Joy Club for them.  Actually, I didn’t tell him any thing about Joy Club and asked him to help Joy Club. He used to come to visit Joy Club in a very short time to watch our program, he just knew a bit about Joy Club.
On that day I met with him to do the budget plan together, I worked out with him with the entire budget that we will need, he agreed all this budget and he will give the money. We also put a budget to hire a part time staff and buy many materials to start Joy Club there.
After that he asked me to find a place and last week we just found a big place, it’s a free land and it’s a good place. The landlord rent us with 25$ a month. There are a few free lands that they offer us to do it for free but it’s not a good land.
I went to visit there many times and I know many people and have good relationship with because my house is not far from the dump. The children and people there heard about this and they were happy.
There is a non Christian organization there that helps the kids to go to school and with food. There is also a small church with about 30 people and the pastor is my friend, I met him when I went to Celebrating Children Seminar. The people at the dump and from that church will help us to set up for Joy Club when we have it. I think we could start as soon as when we have money. We will start with 200 children. The whole area we have around 500 kids or over.
At the moment I am preparing curriculum for Joy Club, we’ve done with some parts now. It will be so helpful after we done it. We will use it for all the Joy Club when we will have.
 Children’s Church:
 Weekly Program
On October 07, 2007, we’ve got 75 kids in first service and 25 children in second service. That week we gave glasses to every kid, they really enjoy it. These glasses were given by a team that runs the training for our volunteers last month.
On October 14, 2007, we didn’t have Children’s Church but we had 29 kids that came on that day and we just worshiped and played some games with them.
On October 21, 2007, we had 98 kids in first service and 20 kids in second service. The worship was very great and also the telling story was so good, the children sit very quietly and listening to the Bible story.
On October 28, 2007, we had 112 kids in first service and 20 kids in second service. The week the children remember the Bible story very well and they really worship God. BiBi did a great job with the worship.
We change the way that we put the offering, we let the kids put offering in the metal box, before we used to pass the offering bag through the kids, and it makes some kids felt sad when they don’t money to put, so we had the metal that the children can put freely.
 Children:
The children are changing, whatever they pick, they always give us back or give to owner even those things are expensive. They are faithful with other belongings.
Some children from Ruth’s orphanage always come early, they come earlier than our volunteers and when they get to church they start helping us to do some works like clean up the mess and set chair, prepare snack, clean the floor, set class for the little kids and the older kids help to welcome other kids that come to Children’s Church. They take high responsibilities. They always ask us to help. They are so good.
In the worship time, the children sing and really worship God, some have so much fire! Some kids stand in front with our worship leader to help to sing and dance. They enjoy this so much.
The children remember the telling story and the memory verse so well. most of the time when we ask they can answer and sometime we teach the memory, the children only read for a few time, then they can read it without looking.
The children behave well in the program. They obey our volunteers and respect them. The children come to children faithfully and the amount of children in first service is growing. The children from an orphanage that missed for along time and these last two weeks they come back, orphanage director told us that she was busy and she couldn’t take the kids here.  Some parents start bringing their kids to children’s church, these last few weeks we saw many new kids.
Some children give the offering even they don’t have much money. Sometime we are late to get offering, then the children ask us to put offering.
We just gave some lesson letters to some kids that didn’t complete yet and they gave us back all what we gave them and they answered the questions very well.
 Our volunteers
Our volunteers have been so faithful and they take high responsibilities, when they miss or late they always call us and let us know ahead. The amount of people helps in Children’s Church is growing because some people just move from Joy Club to help in Children’s Church instead. They work hard and never get any thing from us even snack in the meeting. The volunteers that work in the nursery class are so patient and so humble. They never complain even they work hard especially with the naughty kids. We saw that they really enjoy helping the kids.
Many volunteers are able to do some main responsibilities and to teach the children using the object lesson; they are creative with the story. We start using more people in some area that they never did and they are better. They don’t think they can do it but when they do it, we found that they did well. They work very well as a team.
 Children’s Ministry Staffs:
Chamroeun is growing so much with the work right now. I put him and Thareth, our new volunteer work to set the schedule for Joy Club and do most of the preparations for both Joy Club and Children’s Church. Chamroeun and Thareth go down to visit and teach Bible classes for children and families at slum areas. The children and families like them so much.
Kaya is much better, he knows more works and he could run the Joy Club sometime with Chamroeun. These last two weeks I ask them to run the Joy Club, they did well. He could do some more works that he never did before. He and one of our part time volunteer, Phally go to teach children and families at different slums.
I start training Chamroeun and Kaya much more, they are growing right now.
We just got two new volunteers in Children’s Ministry, one is Thareth, a full time volunteer and another one is Phally, a part time volunteers, he works in afternoon. These two people love the kids so much; they both are so diligent and humble. We saw it on our own eyes and others also told us this. We are training these two guys and most of their work is helping Chamroeun and Kaya.
Thareth told us, this is God’s calling, she started loving the kids since she didn’t come to this church yet and when she come here, God led her to work voluntarily in Children’s Program and after the Encounter with God, God helps her to really humble with the kids. This girl has been very faithful in Joy Club. She is the most faithful volunteer among all. We put her with some administration works. It’s good that we have a girl to work with us.
We set a side our time to meet with our staffs to plan for Joy Club and Children’s Church and solves some problems that we have and we work together to develop Children’s Ministry. This will help us to have specific responsibilities.
 Training:
We just start training children from children’s Church and Joy Club to do the Christmas drama, Chamroeun in charge of this. We will also train some kids to do the dance.
On October o3, We had a training run by David Roger and after the training he also gave us many materials like books, CDs for children program. I read those books and found that it’s very so good. We can use them and practice in our program. We sent 20 of our volunteers to this training, and it’s so helpful, he taught the simple way that we can think of.
On October 31, we had a training and prayer time with our volunteers. Kaya led prayer for one hour and then Chamroeun taught our volunteers about how to control kids and use object lessons. We had over 20 people came to join.
We just finished the training how to play guitar and to play puppets every Sunday at 2pm-4pm. We had 20 volunteers attended this training and we had Darcy and Aileen from Philippine help to train them. We also gave them certification for the completion with some prizes. Some of them never missed during the training, they really enjoyed it so much.
After finishing most of our volunteers improve very much, they can play puppets and with the guitar is better. They also practiced it at Joy Club and Children’s Church, they did it very well. We will use them for Children’s Program.
This month we had a lot of training from outside and we will send some of our volunteers to join, we will have a training run by CEF for preparation for Christmas and we already registered 10 of our volunteers and staffs to join this training.
We already registered Kaya and Thareth to attend one year training course called Celebrating Children run by CEF. This course will start from January to November next year. I and Chamroeun already finished this course. It was so helpful to us.

Prayer Requests:

  1. Budget for Children’s Ministry
  2. Budget for this coming Christmas
  3. Starting new Joy Club at dump and next year we would like to start a few Joy Club
  4. Children from Joy Club will be set free from gambling, and their lives will be changed
  5. Pray for strength, wisdom and anointing for staffs and volunteers
  6. Children will be able to use musical instruments

New Life Fellowship of Churches Cambodia is committed to sharing God’s good news and making disciples…including children!  The Phnom Penh church has a vibrant children’s ministry on Sunday mornings, a street children’s ministry and a Christian primary school. Following is a summary report from Children’s Pastor Moueng Vimean:

Most of our church members are under the age of 30, so in our beginning years we didn’t have very many children.  However, as these young adults got saved, married, and started having children, we began seeing more children in church.  In addition, our Street Children’s Ministry (The Joy Club) has drawn many  of the poorest children from around Phnom Penh. All of these children are first generation children—meaning they knew nothing at all about the Lord Jesus Christ.  We hold both our Children’s Church and Joy Club on the flat roof of two separate buildings. In the beginning years it was absolutely chaotic!  The kids were totally unruly, misbehaved, and knew nothing about order or obedience.  We were truly afraid they might throw each other off the roof!  That was my introduction to Children’s Ministry.  How things have changed!  The children in both the Children’s Church and Joy Club are very well-behaved, sing the songs with gusto and even help lead the program and minister to their peers.  I’m so proud of all of them.

Joy Club
Our Street Children’s Ministry meets every Thursday afternoon.  On any given Thursday we have between 120 and 200 children join us.  The children line up outside of the New Life Fellowship Center shortly after noon and wait until our volunteers arrive.  One-by-one we bathe them, (This may be their only bath for the week) wash their wounds and meet with them in small groups.  The children love to sing, watch dramas, learn from the Bible, and pray in small groups.  These young children really believe in God and know He will help them.  One child had a very bad skin disease.  The poor thing was always itching.  His parents wanted to take him to the spirit doctor who uses demonic magic to heal.  But we prayed for him and the next day he was healed. The Joy Club also gives out dried noodles, soap, or other food items when we have finances. Many visitors from outside Cambodia have been a blessing in giving offerings so we can provide these simple pleasures to the children.

We focus on three different slum areas, and have Bible studies in each area.  Some kids walk more than a mile to join us, but others simply can’t.  Each week they beg us to come, pick them up and bring them to the weekly meeting at New
Life.  However at this time we don’t have transportation or finances to bring them.  As well as teaching the Bible, visiting the small shanties and praying for them, we often clip their nails and clean the wounds of the children.  At the Borey Keyla Slum Area we already have over 50 children and about 30 parents attending our weekly Bible study after only one month!  They all sit so still and listen so attentively to God’s Word.  We have no building to meet in so we just meet in the open air.  The government is forcing the slum area near the Russian hospital to move in August.  We hope to follow these precious children to their new area and continue our ministry with them.

Children’s Church

Children’s Church meets on the rooftop during both Sunday morning church meetings.  We praise God for a recent out-of-country guest who gave us an offering to buy nets to put around the building to protect the children from falling off and wooden shades to keep the sun out.  We usually have about 50-70 children in the first service (7:00 am) and about 40 children in the second service (10:30 am).  The children and workers in the second service get really hot!  Temperatures are usually in the high 90’s (F.) by the time church is finished.  Nevertheless, we are seeing the children grow and wholeheartedly worship, pray and participate.  The older children are beginning to assist in Children’s Church too.  We train the older children monthly and some are now leading prayer groups and really ministering to the younger ones.

We believe that even though the children are poor and have next to nothing, we need to teach them the joy of giving.  We used to pass a basket, but we could see that some of the children were really embarrassed since they didn’t have anything to give.  Now we have a metal box to put the offering in.  The children are so happy when they have a small amount to put in the box.

All of these children come from 1st generation Christian families.  It's so exciting to be able to lay the foundations of Christianity and faith in Christ in their young lives.  These truly are the leaders of the Cambodian church in the future!

Joy Club, September 2007
Reported by Children's Pastor Moueng Vimean

Weekly Program:
On August 02, 2007, we’ve got 162 children; it was raining heavily during the program was in process, the children behaved well and they didn’t move unless we tell them to move even the rain come to them. The worship was good, most children sang along, I gave worship to Bi and Phally to lead; they did so well, it’s beyond my expectation.

On August 09, 2007, we’ve got 146 kids. We had a team from Hawaii led by Peter came to help us with many areas like preparations, worship, Bible skit, etc. It was good to have them on that day because some of our volunteers were not there; they went to attend Leadership Training.  We also had Rose the Pilipino and two people from Mexico helped us on that day.

On August 16, 2007, we had 305 kids, we had a team from Hungary helped us with a lot of areas like dances, song.  On that day we gave every kids like clothes, soap, shoes, toothpaste, toothbrush that sponsored by Logos School.

On August 23, 2007, we’ve got 243 kids, the program was so good, and most of children remembered the telling story very well. That week we had three teams helped in Joy Club, two teams from YWAM and another from Water of Life Church, they’re so helpful.  We also learned new games from them, they are very fun. The Water of Life Team gave the balloons to every kid. The kids really enjoyed it; they had a lot of fun time that week.

On August 30, 2007, we’ve got 209 kids, that week we had Darcy and his wife helped us to prepare for the program, we worked together and made up a creative telling story, the kids remembered the story very well, they all interact with it, they really enjoyed it.  That’s week we got 10 older kids from Sandra and Gram orphanage helped Joy Club for the first time.

Children:
The amount of kids from Joy Club that come to Children’s Church is growing, they really enjoy with their time in Children’s Church. There are over 10 kids from Samaki slum that we go to pick them started coming to Children’s Church and there are a few older kids come to attend adult church service, they come very faithfully.

The kids from other slum areas also come to Children’s Church, we also see their lives are changing especially with their behavior, they learn good behavior. They show respect to their teachers.  The children have good relationship with our volunteers, any time when we go to visit them, they run to greet us and hug us.  In Joy Club, they behave well except a few older kids. At the moment we see that the children are really interested in telling story, they remember very well every week. They’re growing with the Word of God. Their parents told us that their kids enjoy with our program and they always come early.

The amount of kids come to Joy Club is growing this month, if we take kids from Borey Keyla slum come to Joy Club, then there will be no enough room to put them altogether. There are many kids from that area want to come but we don’t want to take them here, it will cost a lot of money for transportation.

Because of the growth of the amount of children, volunteers and the areas that we are reaching children, we would like to plant Joy Club in some areas that we can’t bring them here. To do this will need a lot of money. We thank God for the growth. Please help to pray for this.

We also meet some problems with kids like they discriminate against one another. They talk and play with the kids from the same area and some kids are fast to get upset. This is normal for the kids but we want to break this thought.

Children’s Training on Sunday afternoon:
At the moment we are starting training a few kids a new dance preparing for fun program, we also have problem with the kids that come to train; they get upset with one another sometime.

Chamroeun disciple about 10 kids and he also has some activities with them like playing football or train kids to do the drama. My cell group with kids is not good, the children don’t come faithfully, it’s not their fault but it’s mine because some Sunday I feel very tired, so sometime I asked others to lead instead of me.

Our Volunteers:
Our volunteers work very hard in our program; they spend much time with us to plan and to pray for the growth and for things. They have a heart of a true servant. Some people still help us even they don’t have enough time to help but they still take time to help. Some of them go with us every week to help with our classes for the kids and parents in different slum areas.

This month we got 15 more volunteers in Joy Club, God answered us beyond our expectation, and there are 12 of them from Sandra and Gram orphanage. That’s so good to have these guys. They love the kids. , there more people that just asked us to help Children’s Ministry.  The first week that they just helped us, we saw them working very hard and had high responsibilities, we also have a guy help to play guitar for our worship, and it’s so helpful. We praise God for these guys. So now we have plenty of volunteers.

Slum Areas Outreach:
On August 01, 2007, we didn’t have prayer meeting, we took our volunteers to visit children and their families at different slum areas. Every family welcomed us very warmly; they support us because they see that we care about their kids.  We got a feedback from them, they say what we are doing is very good like we helping their kids to get their nail cut and clean wound, they also said that their kids are so happy to come to our program.  Some parents also would like to come to attend adult church service.

When we got to slums, the children run to greet us. We had two volunteers from Children’s Church come to join us with the visit. They really enjoyed with this work.

On August 01, 2007, we took cameramen from Joyce Meyers Ministry to the dump, they took a lot of pictures, I did a presentation for them and they interviewed me about the children and the people in the dump. They also ask how can they help this kids, I told them that we can have a center that can give medicine, clothes, food and water to them and help to go to school

On August 9, 2007, I took David from Joyce Meyer Ministry to visit two different slums, and then he gave me money to buy food and book and pens to give to children in those slum. A day later there are many people from JMM like Hillsong, Delirious team went to visit the dump.  I did a short presentation for them about the children’s lives and the dump, after visiting they come to help to hand out lunch to our children and some parents at a main slum, they are over 200 people include with children, and we gave out the books and pens to children at Stoeng Meanchey slum, there are over 150 kids.  We heard some people at those slums said that we’re so helpful and they kids are so blessed to have us.

On August 09, 2007, we took Water of Life Team to visit slum at Borey Keyla, they gave some prizes to kids, that’s good. The children like to play with foreigner.

On August 17, 2007, we took Hungarian team to visit Borey Keyla slum, we went into all areas in the slum with our volunteers. The children run to us and we know more families in those areas.

On August 24, 2007, we took two teams from YWAM to visit Borey Keyla slum, they did a lot of fun activities with kids there. They also gave many kids balloons; the children really enjoyed it so much. These help their families like us and we could have better relationship with them.

At the moment we have six areas that we are working and reaching children. Two of them are the big area. So we grow one more area.

On August 22, 2007, we went to Prey Sor Prison to take three kids that their parents got divorced to live in Ruth’s orphanage, their relatives and the villagers were so happy about our help.

Regarding Stoeng Meanchey, We had a family that always help us and they also offer us their house for us to teach English and Bible to children, there is the guy in the family that help to pick the kids from that area to Joy Club by his motor Tuk Tuk. We didn’t pay him about this.  A few days ago, I just asked him to help to ask the village leader about doing clinic for children there, he helps me everything and he is happy to help. The village leader is so good, he is open, and he also supports what we are doing and says, it’s good. He knows about our program and he is happy with our program. I think he knows through the kids there.  We gave him some money for helping with doing the clinic but he didn’t take our money because he supports what we are doing with the kids in his area.

We will do the two clinic for children in two different slum areas, one is at Borey Keyla is on September 26 and another one is at church on September 28. At first we would like to do at Stoeng Meanchey slum instead of church but we don’t have the good place to set for doing.  Through these clinic will help us to have more relationship with kids and families in those areas and will help the kids to check their health.

Our plan to plant Joy Club at slum areas:
Borey Keyla:

We would like to rent a house cost 30$ a month in the apartment building to have Joy Club and teach English class from Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8:00-10am. From 8-9am we do the English class and 9-10am we have club because the house can hold about 50-60 kids.  These three days are different Joy Club, if the kids come for Joy Club on Monday, they can’t come on others, so the kids can take turn to come. We do this because we have many kids there and we can’t hold them at the same time.

The English class is just to show the people that we want to help their kids with this part. We talk to the landlord and the guard that oversee the building there, they are ok with us. We used to have some short program at the building there but the guard never makes us in trouble or complains about this, they are open. They just tell us to let them know.

At the moment we have good relationship with the guard at Borey Keyla, they are open, they don’t permit us to do program and play with kids there. That’s helpful. They also allow us to do the medical clinic for children there.
The people at Borey Keyla are open, they never persecute us or make us in trouble, we don’t have the right place to teach the kids, so we use the area under the building to teach them but people there never complain it, they also send their kids to come with us to come to Children’s Church in second service, there are 30-40 of the kids com to Children’s Church. Bi did a great job with this.

The Village near Prey Sor Prison:
We just went to visit the new area that the kids from the main slum will move to; we built good relationship with people there. We just also help three kids from that area to live in Ruth’s orphanage, when the people there see this; they really see our heart to help them.  We got a very good result that is beyond our expectation. The village leader there offer his house for us to use to do anything we need even to plant Joy Club and also the people there offer their lands for us to plant Joy Club there. They support us. They are happy to see us there to help their kids.

We just start to have English class for the kids there and the people really appreciate with this and the kids are so happy because they never have people that come to teach them English, some kids also ask us to pay for us but we say no.

The area is far from Phnom Penh, it locates near the Prison, so this is the new area that we are reaching and working in. We will also reach areas around it.

At the moment we could build very good relationship with them, so we would like to plant Joy Club as soon as possible when we have enough money. The area is good that we can plant Joy Club in soon future. We’re praying about this.

We will start to have English and Bible classes for kids there every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in this week and Chamroeun and Kayya will do these things.

Offering:
This month Logos school gave a lot of present like clothes, shoes, toothpaste, toothbrush, and some toys. That’s so good.

Prayer Requests:
  1. Our Budget for all areas in Children’s Ministry, money to plant Joy Club in some areas.
  2. Plan to plan Joy Club, people and children will be open for the gospel.
  3. We want to raise up leaders in Children’s Program.
  4. The growth of Joy Club with spiritual and amount kids and slum areas we work.

Children’s Church:
Reported by Children's Pastor Moueng Vimean

Weekly Program:
On August 98 children in first service and 50 kids in second service, we had 36 kids from Borey Keyla. That week we just had 14 kids from Stoeng Meanchey come for the first time, we went to pick them. There is an old guy in that area help to pick them here with his motor tuk tuk and he helps to take care of those kids, we just pay him for his tuk tuk.  That week we had Darcy and two more guys come to observe our program to find out how they can help us. This is good.

On August 12, 2007, we’ve got 117 kids in first service and 53 kids in second service; we had many new kids on that day. That week children from Ruth’s orphanage were absence. This is the first time that they missed Children’s Church.

On August 19, 2007, we’ve got 94 kids in first service and 23 kids in the second service; we were late to pick the kid, that’s why we missed some kids in second service. That week we had the around 10 kids from Samaki slum came to Children’s Church for the first time.

On August 26, 2007, we’ve got 101 kids in first service and 48 kids in second service. We asked Sothea to help to drive truck to pick our children from slums to Children’s Church, he also took 10 kids from his house to come to Children’s Church, the next week we see them again, so these kids will keep coming every Sunday.  That week we had a fun activities, we had the kids read poem, they really enjoyed it. For the Telling Story, the kids remember it very well.

Children:
The amount of the children in Children’s Church keep growing, it grows from 100 to over 150 at the moment, we also have a lot kids in second service, we have around 50 every week. This is what we really want to see that’s why we never drop the second service. Our volunteers and children are always praying about the growth and God did answer. We are proud of our children that pray with passion every week.

The older kids that are our volunteers work very hard, they take high responsibilities, they’re so helpful, they do what we ask them to do. They also enjoy with serving in this ministry. They come to help very faithfully. One day we ask one of the older kids to lead prayer, he did a great job. We will start to put them to do some main responsibilities; it’s time for them to grow. We see their lives are growing; they love God than before and learn how to serve others.

There are a few older kids that just asked us to help as a volunteer, so we will meet with them soon.  In the worship time, most kids sing the songs. The kids remember the Bible story and memory verse very well.  The children learned to trust in God with their offering, and they still give even they have a very little money and we heard their testimonies about God has done with their offering.  There is an older child from Children’s Church start playing guitar for worship in Children’s Church with us now. So now we see what we prayed about. My heart is to see the children use all instrument and makes the great worship. There are a few more are learning keyboard and some are able to play Recorder, we believe that they will be able to play it soon.

Volunteers:
Our volunteers are so good, they work patiently with the kids, they take high responsibilities, and at the moment we see them coming early to get ready and greet the children.  They are some that are growing, they can tell the story, do the memory verse and some more main responsibilities. They come to the planning and to teach faithfully then before. Each volunteer always take lesson to read to prepare ahead and in the planning meeting, they share their idea to make the program together. They work as a good team.
We’re training them to do what they can not do before and to do some more main responsibilities.

Children’s Ministry Staff:
Chamroeun works very well; he also has relationship with others especially with the children and the parents. We plan to send him to teach the children at a village near Prey Sor and he can do some main that I used to do and he growing spiritually and his works also grow.

Regarding Kaya, he knows more about the work at the moment and he can do some works instead of me, we’re training him to be a leader, I put him to do the main works in Children’s Program. I put him to lead some programs. He did well and he keeps growing especially with the spiritual. He is easy to work with.  Every week he goes to teach Bible to children and pick them up and brings them to Children’s Church.

About Bi, he is growing with leading the worship in Children’s Program, and he is good at having relationship with kids and collecting them. He works very hard and is so helpful.
Every Sunday he goes to pick kids at Borey Keyla come to Children’s Church, there are 30-40 kids come along with him. Those kids like him so much. He makes the kids have a lot of fun.

Training or Meeting:
This month we met with our volunteers both in Joy Club and Children’s Church for prayer. I shared with them about the heart of God and then we prayed together.

Offerings in Children’s Ministry:
Hungarian Team put USD$300 for offering to buy a new camera and then we bought a new camera for Children’s Ministry. It’s good to have camera.  There is a person gave us USD$250 to buy Bible for children. Then we bought the Bible.  At the moment we receive offering from our volunteers from Joy Club to do something special after we have enough money.

Other things:
We just built a ceiling and buy mat for the children’s ministry office and the next door and we also just put two air cons in these two rooms. That’s so helpful for our meeting with Children’s Ministry to plan and to pray.

We just bought a Van for Children’s Ministry to pick children in slum areas to Joy Club and Children’s Church. This will help to have more kids and it’s easy for us to go to far slums, taking our volunteers to visit slums, planting Joy Club. It’s a great helpful. We praise God for this blessing.

Prayer Requests:

  1. We want to a great and creative program in Children’s Church
  2. We want to see Children’s Worship Band
  3. The growth in Children’s Church with spiritual and amount of children.

Joy Club:
August 2007
Reported by Moeung Vimean

The children are changing very much with their character. We met some of their parents and they told us that their kids are changing; they start helping their parent’s housework and obey their parents. Some kids are always come early to Joy Club because they enjoy with the program. We heard about this through their parents.

The children remember the Bible story so well; they behave well in the program. There are more kids that are able to pray now. They love their teachers.  There are about 10 kids from main slum area that are always come to Children’s Church faithfully, they always wait for us to pick them even sometime we are late.  There are a few kids that are gifted with the drama and comedy. They always help us to make Joy Club have fun anytime.  When we go to visit them at their house, they run to greet us when they see us. They respect us very well. Our volunteers told us that sometime these kids don’t behave well in Joy Club but when we meet them at their house, they are so good.

We just had a Big Day for Joy Club; we had around 590 kids on that day, that’s a lot that we’ve ever had. We had over 200 new kids on that day, there were 145 new kids from the new area that we just reached came on that day. Our volunteers told us that these kids behaved so well, they did better than our kids.  We got a lot of feedback from our volunteers that children really happy in the Big Day and they want to have it again. One of our helpers took 10 new kids and when they returned home, they told her, they had so fun on the day. The children enjoyed with it so much especially with the worship and drawing program. There are many kids that gave their lives to Jesus after telling story. We thank God that there is no bad happened with children like fighting, sick, or poop on the floor.

Through the Big Day we know a lot of new kids and families and now we start having relationship with them and some start coming to Children’s Church. We see them in Children’s Church in the following week. They still keep coming now.  In the preparation and practices time, everything sound so confusion but when we start all programs run very well and are well organized.

All of our volunteer work very hard, they came in the morning to do the practice and preparations. They took high responsibilities. As for me, that day I took most of responsibilities. But God helped to give me strength even I didn’t have breakfast and lunch, but I could stand until it finish.

There are three guys that helped to pick children with truck; God gave them strength that day even they had to list children on the truck up and down with over 100 kids. It’s incredible.  There is one of the leader who take a lot of responsibilities was not there on that day because his brother got accident on that day and he had to take care of him. God also healed his brother and now he come back to church. He used to be away from God for while, but through that problem, he turned back to God again.

We had such a great volunteer; they work very hard like visiting children at different slum areas every week. At the moment we have a lot of slums that we are reaching, so there are more volunteers that help to go to teach Bible and play with children with us.  We also see their skill with children is developing. Some now are able to lead the programs. They really love the children, and have the heart to serve. One day God spoke to us about a guy that he has a strong potential with worship and reaching children. We also saw this when we test him.

Prayer Request:
1.      We want to have one more Joy Club morning.
2.      Our budget and all the needs of Joy Club.
3.      Children will be changed and reach more new slum areas.

Children’s Church:
August 2007

Reported by Moeung Vimean

The amount of children come to Children’s Church are growing. The children are changing; that older children that volunteer with us are so faithful, they’re growing, they attend our adult church service and the meetings that we have for Children’s Church. They take high responsibilities. They help to control the kids.
The children in Children’s Church behave well; they worship God with all their heart. They have good relationship with children from Joy Club. They remember the Bible story and memory very well. They sit quietly in the telling story and when we ask they always know. The children always greet their teacher when they come. They respect our rules very well. When we ask them to pray, they always pray with passion.

We see the children enjoy with the activities that we set for them during they are coming.  The children are so faithful with other belonging, sometime we and other drop something like money or things but when the children picked them then they give them back to us even we don’t know who picked them. There is one day there is a kids left her watch in the bathroom. A while later she realized that she lost it, then there is kid took it back to her.

Our volunteer takes higher responsibilities now. They control children very well. They have good relationship with kids. There are two volunteers that help every week with the little children class. They work very patient with kids, sometime the children cry but they take care of them very well. Some volunteers are able to telling the story and the memory verse very well, and some learn how to do an emcee, to play puppet, they do it well. Their skills and abilities now are developing.

There are many more new kids that come to Children’s Church through our volunteers that go to pick them at slums. We just got five more volunteers in Children’s Church. They are two of them from Joy Club. The rest are the good Christian. There are two of volunteers from Children’s Church heard what we do for children at slum areas, so they take time to come with us to visit children at slum area and they also help to go another day to teach Bible to children.

 Prayer Requests:

1.  Our vision, we want to see children lead worship and use instruments.

2.  Budget for Children’s Church and all the needs.
3.
Anointing and strength for our volunteer.
