In order to insure the longevity of the church, it is necessary for the local Cambodian Christians to have a way to adequately support themselves. Economic development is a must. Cambodia Outreach is involved in the following relief and development activities:
Teaching the Cambodian people how to properly farm vegetables will help to make them more self-sufficient and better able to provide for their families and villages.
Poverty is rampant in the outer provinces of Cambodia. With the livestock raising program, families have the opportunity to raise animals ($5 per chicken, $300 per cow, or $2000 for 10 pigs with equipment). This helps families create their own self-sufficient income.
Proper disposal of human waste is an important step in preventing disease. Constructing full lavatories helps in maintaining the health of the local communities.
Looms provide another opportunity for Cambodian's to become self-sufficient. The craft of weaving allows Cambodians to earn enough money for their daily needs.
Community centres are often places where a church congregation gathers to worship. In many of the villages of Cambodia, there is a need for church plants to meet. The community centers will help to fill this need. A community center large enough to hold 50 people costs $5,000 and one large enough for 100 people costs $20,000.
There are many families in Cambodia who are in need of new houses to effectively protect them from the elements. Building stable houses will protect people from the sun in the heat of the day and the deluges during the rainy season. The cost of the wood house is $3500 and the cost of the tin house is $1500.
Clean drinking water can be hard to come by. Constructing these water wells will help the people in the community have a consistent supply of fresh drinking water.
Some of our ministries require specific items for the people we are trying to reach and for our pastors in the field. We do not have the resources to supply these items, so it is necessary for people to partner with us to help fill these needs. Cambodia Outreach is currently looking for donations in the following areas:
A 4WD Truck enables our evangelistic team reach villages with the gospel or help to transport patients to the city for medical care. New Life is in need of vehicles to carry passengers and supplies.
As the world continues to advance, it is important for Cambodians to maintain a knowledge of technology that will keep them up to speed with the rest of the world. Laptops are needed for NLF staff members and the NLF School.
Motorbikes are the preferred mode of transportation in Cambodia, and help the staff reach outer provinces and other areas of Phnom Penh for evangelism. The cost covers the bike, helmet, licensing, and fuel for 6 months.
Without access to God's Word, spiritual growth is stifled. Bibles in Khmer allow those who have committed to Christ to pursue their walk in more depth.
As New Life Fellowship grows and expands ministry to other provincial churches, the need for seats increases. Chairs will provide a comfortable alternative to sitting on the floor.
Mosquitoes carry serious illnesses in Cambodia, including malaria and dengue fever, especially in the slums and provinces. Mosquito nets are a simple and effective way of preventing these illnesses.
Joy Club reaches out to the children in the slum and rubbish dump to share the gospel with the children and look after the children's physical needs. Simple supplies such as shampoo, noodles and a drink can be given out.
In the slums of Phnom Penh, disease and infection are easy to find. Something as simple as a pair of shoes is enough to prevent a host of bacterial illnesses for the children who are part of NLF's Joy Club.
Guitars and other musical instruments are needed for the worship team and small groups in Phnom Penh and the church plants in the villages. Our worship team continues to train more musician's in worship.
The most basic form of transportation in Cambodia is the bicycle, and even this is often not found in the villages. Bicycles can allow people in the further reaches of a village to travel to a worship site more efficiently.
Many of the children who we reach out to in the city and church plants come from low-income families. Donations for school supplies will allow the families to use their income for necessities like food and clothing.
First aid kits are the most basic form of practicing good emergency care. Families in the villages and slums are in need of basic first aid kits to heal basic injuries and prevent infections.
