Community Enabling Health
Community Enabling Health (CEH):

We are passionate about improving the health of the people in Cambodia. Our desire is to bring hope to the sick poor who too often have no option but to suffer. The heartbreaking testimonies of many Cambodians have inspired us to take responsibility. We take responsibility as laborers in the Kingdom of Christ to provide for the health and spiritual needs of God’s children, young and old, in the nation of Cambodia.

We do this by TRAINING, EDUCATING, and PROVIDING BASIC MEDICAL SUPPLIES to the Cambodians to meet their health needs. Constant prayer, love, and compassion have all significantly improved the lives of individuals, families, and entire villages.

The Needs:
Many people of Cambodia live without an understanding of common medical knowledge or care. Small cuts turn into infectious wounds. Common illnesses like the flu develop into deadly emergencies. Poor hygiene and diet lead to general unhealthiness. These are just a few of many very preventable situations that drastically lower the quality of life for the Cambodian people, and sometimes even become fatal. Medical problems become fatal in Cambodia for three main reasons:

  • Lack of money for treatment
  • Lack of a medical facility close by
  • Lack of basic first aid and general health knowledge Community Enabling Health (CEH) confronts these issues and meets the healthcare needs of the rural villages by empowering the community as a whole

Not only are there a recognizable health needs in the communities, but there is a spiritual hunger in the people. CEH uses the health care avenue to reach the hearts of the Cambodians. CEH primarily sees the need for Jesus from the people and are able to share the healing and everlasting love of Christ with the individuals they help.

HOW WE HELP:
God has called CEH to dedicate our attention to preventative healthcare, specifically by training Cambodians to improve their own health and the health of their communities.

Health Care Assistant Program
CEH’s strategy is to train individuals called healthcare assistants to provide for the basic healthcare needs of their communities. The training is three-stepped:
  • First, new healthcare assistants go through one year of training in first aid and basic health.
  • Next, the trained health assistants are encouraged and empowered to share their knowledge with their communities by training others, providing grassroots growth.
  • Finally, health assistants continue to learn new skills through our weekly training classes and extensive medical library. As of 2010, CEH has deployed 20 healthcare assistants to 18 locations in 5 provinces of Cambodia.
Healthcare Centers:
As of 2010, CEH has created 18 Healthcare Centers in the rural communities of Cambodia. Healthcare assistants use medical supplies provided by CEH to meet the growing health needs of their community. CEH also provides books and materials so they can start a health library within their communities.

New Healthy Life Magazine:
CEH publishes New Healthy Life Magazine quarterly to educate Cambodians towards living healthy and balanced lives. It is bilingual (Khmer and English), illustrated (as only 40% of Cambodians are literate) and provided free of charge.

Compassion With Power- Healing Home and Patient Care are two other Healthcare ministries with New Life that focus on other areas of Healthcare. They work hand in hand with each other and CEH to improve the health of Cambodians.

Testimonies:
"Imagine living in a village where there may be no doctor and an ambulance can be hours away. Teaching people to use some of these life saving techniques can mean life and death for many people."  Sokcheat, The director of CEH

"We are so happy with this teaching. We are much healthier than we used to be. Before we just didn’t know, but now that we can have knowledge we can have better health."  Pastor Theng Pr Ly of Kraing Yaov Village

Richard had attended the New Life Health Care class in his village. One day he had witnessed a man who was hit by a drunk driver. The man was unconscious when Richard and two others were able to check his vital signs and carefully turn the man onto his side as the man began to vomit. As they worked on him the man regained consciousness and in the meantime an ambulance was called to take him to the hospital. The man is now back in his village.

Seng studied the First Aid course in his village. One evening, a 35 year old woman had a heart attack in his village. The woman was unconscious when Seng was able to check her heartbeat and determine that she had no pulse. Seng immediately began to perform CPR. The woman then would regain and lose consciousness again. He continued CPR until she regained her consciousness, later to be transported to the hospital. The woman is alive today.
