The Phnom Penh church is the "mother church" of the provincial churches that we have planted. When we first went to Cambodia we intended to follow the strategy in the Book of Acts: Start in Jerusalem, move to Samaria, then Judea, then other nations. The Jerusalem and Antioch churches were the source of strength for churches that were planted in surrounding provinces and nations.
Our original target group was university students and university-aged students...and that's what we got. For awhile it seemed that we had a boys club rather than a church, since in the early days hardly any women attended the university. We prayed fervently for God to add women to the church..and He did.
Now New Life Fellowship Phnom Penh is one of the largest churches in Cambodia with more than 600 attenders on Sunday morning and many more who consider themselves members. We have a full church program, including Sunday morning discipleship classes, a leadership training school, children's ministry, cell groups, midweek church meeting, multiple prayer meetings, youth meetings and many different kinds of outreaches.
About 80% of the Phnom Penh church is under 30 years of age. The church is vibrant, full of life, enthusastic and full of energy. Everything in the service is in Khmer, the Cambodian language, but we have translation into English via small radios we provide for our non-Cambodia guests. If you visit Cambodia, we would love to have you come join us!
